Wirley Anthony Parks

Wirley Anthony Parks, known as “The General” by most, went to be with our Lord and Savior on March 28, 2026, in Metairie, Louisiana, at the age of 82. Born on December 21, 1943, in Raceland, Louisiana, he lived many years in Harahan, LA, and was a lifelong resident of Metairie, LA. Wirley lived a life marked by devotion to his family, service to his country, and steady dedication to his work. He was a Catholic whose faith guided him throughout his life, and he carried himself with kindness, humor, and a spirit that made others feel welcome and at ease. Wirley was a proud veteran of the United States Navy, an experience that reflected his sense of duty, strength, and dedication that carried through his life. Following his military service, he devoted 44 years of hard work and skill to Avondale Shipyards, where he retired as a supervisor machinist. His long career was a testament to his strong work ethic, reliability, and the respect he earned from those who worked alongside him. Family was at the center of Wirley’s life. He shared 60 devoted years of marriage with his beloved wife, Dianna Cole "Dee" Parks, and together they built a life filled with love, laughter, and lasting memories. He was a proud father to Patrick A. Parks, Bridget M. Parks, and Stephen M. Parks (Elisha). He was also a cherished grandfather to Brandon King-Parks, Trinity Parks, Darin Whittington, Gabrielle Whittington, Valerie Whittington, Jason Miller, and Joshua Parks, and he was blessed with eight great-grandchildren who brought him great joy. He is also remembered by his brother-in-law, Lloyd Cole (Pam), along with his two four legged friends, Molly Poo and Honey Bun, his little mountain goat, and many extended family members and friends who will forever hold his memory close. He was preceded in death by his parents, Arthur and Justilla Parks, and by his siblings, Nathan, Everette, Geraldine, Muriel, Juanita, and Warren. Wirley enjoyed the simple pleasures of life, especially spending time at the Grand Isle camp with family and friends. Those gatherings were among his happiest times, filled with fellowship, laughter, and the comfort of being surrounded by the people he loved most. He also loved fishing, an interest that reflected both his patience and his appreciation for the outdoors. Whether sharing stories, enjoying a good laugh, or heading out for a day on the water, he found joy in the moments that brought people together. He was also a lifelong Saints and LSU fan, he enjoyed and looked forward to watching the LSU and Saints games on the weekends with his family. The family would also like to extend their gratitude to Nurse Heaven at East Jefferson General Hospital for providing gentle and special care to Wirley in his time of need. Relatives and friends are invited to attend the Wake for Wirley at L.A. Muhleisen & Son Funeral Home, 2607 Williams Blvd., Kenner, LA 70062 on Monday, April 6, 2026. The Wake will be held from 5:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. Relatives and friends are also invited to attend the Visitation and Funeral Mass the following day at St. Charles Borromeo Catholic Church, 13396 River Road, Destrehan, LA 70047 on Tuesday, April 7, 2026. Visitation will be held from 9:00 a.m. to 11:00 a.m. followed by his Funeral Mass starting at 11:00 a.m. Burial to take place directly after at St. Charles Borromeo Catholic Cemetery, Destrehan, LA.
