Rita Marino Bertolino

Rita Marino Bertolino peacefully entered into eternal rest on Friday, February 2, 2018 at the age of 88. Mrs. Bertolino was born in New Orleans, Louisiana on September 18, 1929 to the late Virginia “Jenny” Palazzo Marino and Salvador “Sam” Marino, both Italian immigrants who married and settled in Kenner, Louisiana where they raised ten children and farmed all the days of their lives. Mrs. Bertolino attended Kenner High School and as a young girl traveled to downtown New Orleans to work in retail to financially help her family. On February 14, 1953, she married Anthony Joseph “Muss” Bertolino. They had six children and were married 22 years until Muss’s death in 1975. Her husband served on the City of Kenner Council until his death serving as Kenner Council President. Immediately following her husband’s death, Mrs. Bertolino was appointed to the Kenner City Council. After 30 years of service, she retired from the City of Kenner in 2006. In the spirit of her Italian Kenner Heritage, she supported Italian traditions and was a member of the East Jefferson Italian-American Society. Mrs. Bertolino was also an active member of the AARP - Kenner Chapter. She enjoyed attending holiday socials, casino trips and her regular weekly outings. Mrs. Bertolino was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Anthony J. “Muss” Bertolino; her sisters: Christine M. Bonura, Louise M. Orgeron and Antoinette M. “Lena” Downing; her brothers: Ralph Marino and Leo Marino and brother-in-law Steven “Bootsie” Bertolino. She is survived by her beloved children: Regina M. Bertolino; Rita Anne Bertolino; Alberto M. “Al” Bertolino and wife Donna; Cathy B. Gudan and husband Clint, Sr.; Salvadore S. “Sal” Bertolino and wife Dodie; Lisa B. Becnel and husband Troy; her sisters: Rosalie M. Weber and Mary Ann M. Tines; her brothers: Joseph “Buts” Marino and Peter Marino; 11 adoring grandchildren: Anthony J. “Tony” Bertolino, Jodi M. Bertolino, Major Clint L. Gudan, Jr. United States Army (Megan), Albert M. Bertolino (Sarah), Rachel Bourgeois Green (Geoffrey), Ryan A. Gudan, Brooke M. Ortiz (Andrew Cambus), Tyler J. Gudan, Carolyn Rose, Katherine R. “Kate”, and Salvadore A. “Muss” Bertolino; 6 great-grandchildren: Ashford, Anthony, Cayla, Anne Marie, Eleanor and John; Sisters-in-law Marie B. Marchese and Nancy B. Waguespack; and numerous cousins, nieces and nephews who loved their Aunt Rita. She will be sadly missed by all who knew and loved her. Relatives and friends are invited to attend the Funeral Mass at Our Lady of Perpetual Help Catholic Church, 500 Minor Street, Kenner on Wednesday, February 7, 2018 at 12:00 p.m. Visitation at the church from 10:15 a.m. to 12:00 p.m. Interment in Garden of Memories Cemetery.
