Raymond Lee Deist

Raymond Lee Deist, 69 of Kenner, Louisiana passed away on Sunday, January 28, 2024. A native of Kenner, he was preceded in death by his parents Clarence Raymond Deist and Mary-Rose (Buras) Deist, also of Kenner. He is survived by his loving wife of 42 years Rita Jeannette (Wendt); his sons Anthony (wife Elizabeth), Philip (wife Donna), Michael, and daughter, Melissa. Seven grandchildren: Timothy, Jordan, Courtney, Michael, Hope, Byron, Peyton, and two great-grandchildren. He is also survived by his siblings: Gerard (wife Wanda), Darlene (husband Gabe), Ricky (wife Donna), Daryl (wife Julie), and Mary (husband Darren) in addition to many grown nieces and nephews, each with families of their own. Raymond was born in New Orleans on August 12, 1954. He graduated from East Jefferson High School in Metairie where he was a member of the band. After high school he worked for the City of Kenner in the Traffic Division, coached many youth softball and baseball teams, and was a volunteer for the Kenner Fire Department. He was an avid Saints fan and enjoyed many years of coaching the team from the comfort of his recliner on Sundays. Raymond was also very active in public service. He was a member of the Kenner Central Lions Club (8-S) and served as District Governor from 2004-2005. During his years of service to the Lions Club, he was very active in many projects. Most notable was his work with the Louisiana Lions Camp and the Louisiana Lions Eye Foundation. He was also very active with the Knights of Columbus and served as its Grand Knight for the Metairie Council of Our Lady of Divine Providence (#9347) in 2002-2003. Through his years of service, Raymond made many friends in the region and on the national and international levels from these service organizations. He was most proud of his work with the children who participated in the Louisiana Lions Camp in Anococo, Louisiana. Following a private family gathering from 9-10 a.m. friends and colleagues are invited to attend the viewing from 10-12 p.m. at L.A. Muhleisen & Son Funeral Home at 2607 Williams Boulevard in Kenner, LA 70062 on Monday, February 5, 2024. A Catholic Mass, beginning at 12 p.m., will conclude the visitation.
