Marie "Adele" Peters Williams

Marie “Adele” Peters Williams passed away peacefully amongst her family on June 6, 2018 at the age 94. She was preceded in death by her beloved husband Edward Blaine “Ted” Williams, Sr., her son, Richard Brownell Williams, and daughter Adrienne Louise Williams. Adele was born in New Orleans, the daughter of Blanche Lemarie and William LeMonnier Peters and grew up on Peniston Street in uptown New Orleans. Her great grandfather was Samuel Jarvis Peters, known as the father of the New Orleans School System. Adele attended L. E. Rabouin Vocational School for commercial art as well as taking a course in drafting which was offered during the World War II years. Adele then worked as a draftsperson for the Higgins Industries Shipyards at which the famous D-Day landing craft were built. Adele dated many servicemen during this time but when she met the love of her life, Edward Blaine Williams, Sr., they married and settled down in old Jefferson in St. Agnes Parish, and then later in old Metairie where they lived for many years at the previous home of her Aunt Loulette and Uncle Harold. Adele and Ted raised four children and they always put family first; Adele was a Girl Scout Leader and took her daughters and fellow girl scouts on camping trips and outings. Her family and relatives and friends often got together yearly at Percy Quin State Park in Mississippi for Easter or Thanksgiving. Adele had a remarkable zest for life and she and Ted traveled often, across the USA from Key West, Florida to Alaska, and Mexico and Europe. They were members of the Schoolhouse Squares, a square-dancing group based out of St. Agnes Church. Adele also loved bargains and spent numerous Saturdays visiting garage sales. Adele worked later on for Shell Oil in their Gentilly office and then moved on to work for Jefferson Parish in the Planning Dept. for many years and she loved her job. After an illness in 2012, Adele moved in with her daughter and husband, Celeste and Michael Capielano, Sr., where she was very happy. During these years she loved seeing and spending time with her family and great grandchildren and going on outings and trips with the whole family. Adele also enjoyed going to church at St. Agnes, St. Rita in Harahan, and St. Patrick’s Cathedral in New Orleans where she had gone when she was young. Adele will be deeply missed by all her family and friends. Adele is survived by three children, Marie Elise Williams Biggs (Mike), Celeste Ann Williams Capielano (Michael) and Edward Blaine Williams, Jr. (Liz); grandchildren Michael Capielano, Jr., Kristen Capielano Rau (Wesley), and Angela Capielano Lopez (Jeferson), Edward Blaine “Teddy” Williams, III and Joshua Cameron Williams; great grandchildren Landen Rau and Adelynn Rau, step-grandchildren Jessie Thornton and Shawn Hunter; and her cat Skippy-Kitty. Relatives and friends are invited to attend Funeral Services on Friday, June 15th at St. Rita Catholic Church, 7100 Jefferson Highway in Harahan, Louisiana with visitation beginning at 11:00 a.m. and mass at 12:00 p.m. Following the services, there will be a Memorial & Celebration of Life gathering for relatives and friends.
