Ivy Batiste

Ivy Batiste Sr. departed this life peacefully on June 21, 2026, at the age of 83. Born on December 14, 1943, in New Roads, Louisiana, Ivy was the ninth of eleven children born to the late James Batiste, Sr. and Angelina Celestine Batiste. At an early age, he relocated to New Orleans, Louisiana, where he established his home and enjoyed a long and distinguished career in Quality Assurance at Avondale Shipyards. Through his dedication and strong work ethic, he earned the respect of his colleagues and became a well-known and beloved member of the community. Affectionately known as “Tha Godfather,” Ivy was a free spirit with a huge heart. His charisma, charm, and friendly disposition left a lasting impression on everyone he met. He was a masterful pool shark, and a devoted sports enthusiast who enjoyed boxing and football. Above all, Ivy loved life, and spending time with those he cherished. Ivy was preceded in death by his parents, James Batiste, Sr. and Angelina Celestine Batiste; his beloved wife of 35 years, Bernadette Batiste; his daughter, Troyce Batiste; his sisters, Pearl Coach, Ruby Williams, Mary Batiste, and Angelina Wesley; and his brothers, Herbert Batiste, Robert Batiste, Frank Batiste, James Batiste Jr., and Ronald Batiste. He leaves to cherish his memory his children, Ivory Gaddies, Tyrone Batiste, Denise Batiste, Patrice Batiste, Ivy Batiste Jr., and; his brother, Roger Batiste; his grandchildren, Taurean Gaddies, Tyrell Gaddies, Jyrell Gaddies, Jamal Gaddies, Ashley Batiste, Brittany Batiste, Arione Eskridge, Robinitra Batiste, Perchell Gaddies his great-grandchildren, Jeremiah Howard, Tye Gaddies, Gizelle Gaddies, Omari Wheeler, Jamal Gaddies Jr., Jyree Gaddies, Aaliyah Eskridge, Jyrell Gaddies Jr., Juna Gaddies, Jaro’ Gaddies; and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, other relatives, and dear friends. Like all who journey through life, Ivy possessed both strengths and imperfections. He was a man of strong convictions who marched to the beat of his own drum and remained true to himself. His determination, independence, and unique spirit left a lasting impression on those who knew him. Ivy’s warmth and easygoing nature drew people together and fostered lasting friendships. Through his love of storytelling, cheering on his favorite teams, race car driving, and playing pool, he created countless cherished memories that will live on in the hearts of family and friends for generations to come. Ivy’s legacy is one of faith, generosity, and devotion. As a faithful supporter of Our Lady of Perpetual Help Catholic Church, he consistently gave his tithes and offerings and remained committed to the values he cherished throughout his life. We are gathered to remember Ivy’s life and acknowledge the years he spent with us, while finding comfort in the love, memories, and community he leaves behind. “Though he may be gone from our sight, ‘Tha Godfather’ will forever remain in our hearts.” All are invited to attend the Celebration of Life Service honoring Ivy’s life at L. A. Muhleisen & Son Funeral Home, 2607 Williams Blvd., Kenner, LA on Friday, July 10, 2026. Visitation will be held from 9:00 a.m. to 11:00 a.m. followed by a Prayer Service at 11:00 a.m. Interment will follow in Mount Olivet Cemetery, New Orleans, LA.
