Eileen Alger Willoughby

Eileen Alger Willoughby, age 61, passed away peacefully on March 19, 2012, surrounded by her loving family. Eileen was a lifelong resident of New Orleans, LA, where she graduated from Sacred Heart of Jesus High School. She is predeceased by her parents, the late William Robert Alger and the late Rosella Sheppard Alger. Eileen cherished her family and friends and devoted her life to her husband of 33 years, Charles Willoughby, who lovingly and endlessly cared for her during her 10 year battle with Neuroendocrine/Carcinoid cancer. She is also survived by her daughter and son-in-law, Jennifer Willoughby and Scott Schwin, and her adoring granddaughter, Ella Schwin, to whom Eileen taught love, compassion and selflessness, and created precious memories that made her Ella’s sweet “Nana.” Eileen is also survived by her sisters, Alice Alger Rockvoan, Barbara Alger Bigg, and Amy Alger Henry, who she loved dearly and shared an unbreakable bond. Eileen had a loving and motherly nature that she shared with her host of cousins, nephews, nieces, great-nephew, and great-nieces. Eileen will be missed by all who loved her and shared in her life, but her memory and dynamic legacy of love and selfless devotion to others will live on forever in the hearts of those whose lives she touched. The family would like to thank Dr. Lowell Anthony, Dr. Yi-Zarn Wang, Dr. J. Philip Boudreaux, Maria Chester, and Ann-Porter Uhlhorn, of the Ochsner Neuroendocrine Tumor Program and the nurses of Ochsner Medical Center, Kenner, for the impeccable, unending, and compassionate care they gave Eileen and her family throughout her journey. Friends and family who shared Eileen’s life are invited to attend a Memorial Mass in celebration of her life on Saturday, March 24, 2012 at St. Mary Magdalen, 6425 West Metairie Ave., Metairie. Visitation will be from 10 a.m. - 12 pm with Mass immediately following. Interment will be private at a later date.
