Edward Joseph Hymel Jr.

Edward Joseph Hymel, Jr. died at 90 years old on March 6, 2022, surrounded by his loving wife and four children at home. He was born on January 8, 1932 in Wallace, LA and long time resident of Destrehan. He is survived by his loving wife of 65 years, Kathleen Mae Bourgeois and his four children; Mary Jordan (Jimmy), Margaret Favaloro (David), John Hymel (Shellie), and Edward Hymel III (Danielle). He leaves behind 10 wonderful grandchildren; Jeffrey, Jordan(Hilary), Brenton Jordan, Chelsey Ricks (Patrick), Taylor Hymel (Chelsea), Katie Hymel, Austin Hymel, Ashlyn Forest (Chris), Emily Hymel, Noah Hymel, and Quincy Hymel. As well as 4 great grandchildren; William and Samuel Jordan (Jeffrey); Eli and Camille Ricks (Chelsey). He was the son of the late Edward Sr. and Leona Hymel of Wallace. He is survived by Rita Simon (Peddy) and Marjorie Tregre (Ted). He is preceded in death by sisters Beulah Weber (Ben). Nora Roussell (EJ), Mabel Clement (Vernan), Elsie Abadie (AJ), and Ann Rome (Rumsey). He was loved and adored by a plethora of nieces, nephews, aunts, uncles and friends. Edward was the post master of 70047 for over 30 years as well as an electrician and TV/Computer repairman. He was active in his faith and attended over 40 Manresa Ignatian Retreats, Group 47, including attending Adoration Chapel at St. Charles Borromeo since its inception. He served as a Sergeant in the Korean War with the Air Force 479th and was an America Legion Commander for post 366. He enjoyed many hobbies including Bee Keeping and making his famous andouille and hogs head cheese with his sons and grandsons. The family would like to extend their many thanks to his postal family and the great staff at Fresenius; Central Home Health nurses Janel and Tanya and therapist Lisa; and the many caring neighbors and friends who have helped when he was in need. Relatives and friends are invited to attend the Funeral Mass at St. Charles Borromeo Catholic Church , 13396 River Rd, Destrehan, LA 70047 on Monday, March 14, 2022.
