    Smitty Smith

    March 25, 1938 - March 19, 2022

    Palma “Smitty” Smith passed peacefully on Saturday March 19,2022 of a life well lived. He was 83 years old. He was surrounded by his wife of 64 years and his 5 children. Smitty was born March 25,1938 to the late Reed and Odessa Smith in Lacamp Louisiana. He had one brother, the late Doug Smith (Sue) and one sister in law Rose Wadenpfuhl (late Sterling and Bryan). Smitty married Judy Callahan Smith on April 25,1958. He graduated from East Jefferson High School in 1956 then enlisted in the U.S. Navy. He very proudly served on the USS Midway in the Pacific. Smitty worked for and retired from Odeco drilling and exploration. He rejoined the workforce and retired from All-Temp refrigeration. He loved the New Orleans Saints, woodworking, plants, pottery, building and creating anything. He could build, fix or improve anything. He was always joking and making people laugh. Smitty never met a stranger. He was a devout catholic and parishioner of OLPH. He is survived by his loving wife of 64 years, Judy Callahan Smith. His five children, Tammy,Jimmy, Kevin, Danny(Tonja), Debbie S. Matherne (Jerry) and a bonus daughter Amy K. Smith. His grandchildren: Brandi and Dylan Monjure, Lindsey Ruiz (Jason), Connor Smith (Jaslyn),Bonnie Smith, Bailey, Kacie and Ava Smith, Blake (Mary), Dustin and Macie Matherne, Kiersten, Jordan and Calvin Smith. Great grandchildren: Daniel and Ezra Smith, Wyatt and Lydia Ruiz and Miller Matherne. He is also survived by his niece, nephews, family members and friends. He loved being in his man cave taking care of all the stray neighborhood cats. Especially Blue eyes and Gus Gus. He had wonderful neighbors, Joann, Jimmy and Kay and a very special Jody and Abby. Catholic funeral services will be held on Friday 3-25-2022 at Our Lady of Perpetual Help 1908 Short St. Kenner La. 70062. Visitation is from 10:30-12:30 with Mass starting at 12:30. Burial following at Jefferson memorial gardens 11316 River Rd. St. Rose, LA 70087. Dress code will be “Smitty style” In lieu of flowers donations can be made in his name to Make a wish foundation or Wounded Warrior Project.
