Rose Ann "Rosie" Rauch Denny
December 16, 1945 - March 14, 2021
Rose Ann “Rosie” Rauch Denny, a native of New Orleans, passed away at home surrounded by her loving family on March 14, 2021, at the age of 75. Rosie was born on December 16, 1945 in the Irish Channel to the late Robert J. Rauch, Sr. and Louise Cline Rauch. She is a graduate of St. Alphonsus Elementary School and Redemptorist High School (Class of ’63). Regarded for her kindness to all, during her senior year, Rosie devoted special attention to one classmate, which culminated in 56 years of a blessed marriage to her adoring husband, Frank V. Denny, III. Rosie is survived by her five loving children, Frank IV, Amy, Robert “Andy” (Brenda), Michael (Danica), and Deanne Dunn (Patrick), and her seven grandchildren, Frank V, Kayleigh, Camille, Everett, Lucy, Beau, and Roman. She also leaves behind her closely united siblings, Robert J. Rauch (Glenda), Ronald H. Rauch (Kitty), Betty O’Brien (late Patrick O’Brien, Sr.), her sister-in-law, Clara Dellale (late Robert Dellale), brother-in-law Thomas Denny (Cathy), aunts Audrey Hyer, Joyce Cline and Catherine Cline, as well as her many beloved nieces and nephews. Rosie dedicated her life to caring for children and sharing her passion for all things New Orleans. She was a Cub Scout den mother and CYO mentor and chaperone for countless field trips, where she endured pranks by the kids and instigated many in return. Rosie is famous for her late night scavenger hunts with creative clues that kept the teenagers on their toes. For over thirty-five years, Rosie served the children of St. Christopher Catholic School in many capacities, including the Director of the Early Education Center and Summer Camp. Her campers and students were welcomed each morning with her gleaming smile, encouraging words, and prayer. With hundreds of campers under her wings, Rosie filled the day with patriotic songs to honor the military, field trips to cherished New Orleans locations, and sock hops in the gym. Rosie was a devout Catholic and faithful member of St. Christopher Catholic Church for 58 years, where she was a Eucharistic Minister. In 2016, she was awarded the Order of St. Louis Medallion from Archbishop Gregory Aymond. She also was the proud recipient of the Alumna of the Year award from Redemptorist High School in 1983. Rosie was an avid supporter of local sports, a Saints season ticket holder, and fan of the Pelicans and Tulane University. Rosie was dedicated to following her children and grandchildren to fields and gyms across South Louisiana, and it was at Cleary Playground where she forged lifelong friendships with the Krewe of Lawn Chairs. New Orleans was in Rosie’s blood. Whether it was Jazz Fest, French Quarter Fest, or a local school fair, Rosie would be on her feet, dancing and singing to live music. Mardi Gras was her favorite time of the year, second only to the St. Patrick’s Day Parade in the Irish Channel. Rosie understood the importance of making time to celebrate life’s blessings together. Her home was decorated for every holiday and open to all, including a New Year’s Eve party, she hosted each year for 40 years. Rosie’s home-cooked meals brought family and friends together, and even the best of chefs have yet to duplicate her world famous biscuits. Traditions were important to Rosie. She played Pokeno with a friend group for 55 years and with a family group for 35 years. Rosie cherished her family and friends. Her boundless energy and joy for life were infectious. Although she will be missed dearly, we will all strive to honor her by continuing her legacy of faith, love and family. Relatives and friends of the family are invited to attend the funeral mass at St. Christopher Catholic Church, 3900 Derbigny St., Metairie, LA 70001, on Saturday, March 20, 2021 at 1pm, with visitation from 10am-1pm. Interment in Greenwood Cemetery, New Orleans, LA.. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in Rosie’s name to the Alzheimer’s Association or Louisiana Right to Life. Rosie’s family extends their sincere gratitude and appreciation to Louisiana Hospice and Palliative Care, especially Jalisa Pinkley for her exceptional care. Due to COVID-19, masks will be required to enter. Arrangements by L. A. Muhleisen & Son Funeral Home. Please consider sharing your thoughts, favorite memory or condolences at www.muhleisen.com
