    Robert Louis Liljeberg Sr.

    January 11, 1938 - May 8, 2022

Robert Louis Liljeberg, Sr. a loving husband, father, grandfather and great-grandfather passed away peacefully at his residence on Sunday, May 8, 2022 as a result of heart failure. Bob was born on January 11, 1938, in New Orleans. Following an Honorable Discharge from the United States Navy, he graduated from Northeastern Louisiana University College of Pharmacy with a Bachelor of Science in Pharmacy. It is through his profession that he met his sweetheart, Genevieve Sarah Brocato, whose father was also a pharmacist and his first employer. Together they had five children, nineteen grandchildren and three great-grandchildren. After working for his father-in-law’s pharmacy, he partnered with his brother and started an independent pharmacy in the growing City of Kenner. The brothers turned that small pharmacy into four pharmacies in Kenner and New Orleans. From their modest beginnings, they eventually founded St. Jude Hospital in Kenner (now Ochsner Medical Center - Kenner). A hard worker who experienced many successes, Bob was quiet and humble. He was as selfless as he was dependable—a doer, not a talker. He was quick with time-worn, yet appropriate, quips to lighten every situation. He loved horse racing and Mardi Gras. But his true passion was making sure his and Genevieve’s children were educated and that they succeeded and excelled. While he never bragged, he beamed with pride over his children and grandchildren, whose achievements are many, to include elected office, business, art, medical and legal professions, and even a decorated TOPGUN pilot. Many describe him as the most generous man they’ve met. A quiet and fiercely devoted Catholic, he was a parishioner of the Good Shepherd St. Stephen’s Catholic Church. For sixty-two years he was the beloved husband of Genevieve Sarah Brocato. Father of Roxanne Tortorich, R.Ph. (Greg); Robert L. Liljeberg, Jr., M.D. (Pamela); Samuel J. Liljeberg, R.Ph. (Jean); Judge Hans J. Liljeberg, J.D. (Stacey); and Heidi Sharp, R.Ph. (Kent). Son of the late Amelia Odeile Gobet and John Axel Liljeberg; son-in-law of the late Rosalie Pittari Brocato and Samuel Charles Brocato. Brother of the late John L. Liljeberg, Jr. (Rose Lynne) and the late Marlene Bradley. Grandfather of Lt. Cmdr. John Tortorich, USN (Katherine), Sarah Tortorich, M.A.A.A., Gregory Tortorich, M.D., Matthew Tortorich; Robert Liljeberg, III, Erika Liljeberg, J.D., Madison Liljeberg; 2nd Lt. Kathryn Liljeberg, USA, Samuel Liljeberg, Jr.; Gretchen Casey, J.D. (Chris), Krista Liljeberg, R.N., Jensen Liljeberg, D.V.M., Hanna Liljeberg; Kelsey Liljeberg, Allyson Liljeberg, Hallie Liljeberg, Shea Moreau, MCD, CCC-SLP, Lindsay Moreau, and Grant Moreau. Great-grandfather of Jason Tortorich, James Tortorich, and Rowan Casey. A Funeral Mass will be celebrated at the Good Shepherd St. Stephen’s Catholic Church, 1025 Napoleon Ave, New Orleans, LA on Friday, May 13, 2022 at 1:00 p.m., The Reverend Andrew Guiterrez, celebrant, followed by a private interment in Metairie Cemetery. Visitation at church from 11:00 a.m. until 1:00 pm. In lieu of usual remembrances, please consider masses or a donation in Bob’s memory to Good Shepherd St. Stephen’s Catholic Church, 1025 Napoleon Ave., New Orleans, LA 70115. Arrangements by L.A.
