On Monday January 18, 2021 Patrick Solfred Dorion 86 passed away after a brief illness. He was born in New Orleans the 2nd son of Wallace Sr and Henrietta Kenney Dorion who preceded him. Patrick married his high school sweetheart and soulmate Edith Drouant Dorion in June 1956. This past year they happily celebrated 64 years of a loving, strong and faith filled marriage. Surviving in addition to his wife are son Brian (Leslie) and daughters Michelle (Ruary) O’Connell and Suzette (Michael) Wink. He was blessed with 5 grandchildren Christopher, Tim (Nayelly) and Steven Dorion, Caroline and Patrick Wink and one great grandchild Liam Dorion. He is also survived by brothers Wallace Jr (Jacqui) and George ( Sue) Dorion plus numerous nieces, nephews, cousins and friends galore! He is a graduate of St. Matthias Elementary School, Holy Cross High School and Louisiana State University. Playing baseball in the summer and basketball in the fall was a happy pleasure for a younger Pat. He equally loved his friends in The Ancient Order of Hibernians, The Irish Channel Marching Club, The Serra Men’s Organization, Louisiana Beer Industry League, Holy Cross Alumni Association and Lantern Light Ministry. Pat also served as a Eucharistic Minister in St Philip Neri parish as well as a former member of the Knights of Columbus Gentilly Chapter. In his retirement years Pat sat on the Board of Directors for the Abita Brewing Company. In 1997 he was the recipient of the Johanna Seither Celtic Cross Award from The Celtic Circle Club. Pat was named Grand Marshall of the Irish Channel Marching Club in 1999 enjoying his reign on a cold, blustery, rainy March day. Then in 2000 he was named The Man of the Year for the Hannan Chapter of the Ancient Order of Hibernians. Patrick began his long and admired business career with Hill Brothers Groceries. He then stepped into positions in Wholesale Beer Industry working for Colt 45, Falstaff Brewery and the Jax Brewery until it closed in 1974. He then began his favorite career years with the Sazerac and Magnolia Marketing Companies in sales and management. In 1982 Pat assisted in the acquirement of Coors Beer to distribute east of the Mississippi to grateful Southeast Louisiana customers! He entered into retirement 17 years later after working in the Goldring Family owned Crescent Crown Distribution Company as Vice President. Patrick was a wonderful and devoted husband, father, and Papa. He was a trustworthy friend, valued employee and an endless volunteer to numerous causes. A generous and gentle spirit he was seen by many as a true Southern gentleman. He will be sorely missed because he was truly loved. Please join his family in celebrating Patrick’s life on Tuesday January 26, 2021. St Ann National Shrine 3601 Transcontinental Blvd, Metairie. Visitation begins at 10:30 am Mass at Noon. Internment will follow at Greenwood Cemetery. In lieu of flowers donations in Patrick’s name can be made to Lantern Light Ministry 1802 Tulane Ave. NOLA 70112.
