In Loving Memory Mary Decker Jaufre February 6, 1925 - January 1, 2016 Mary Alma Decker Jaufre, at the age of 90, departed this life peacefully at her daughter’s home in Kenner and took her place in Heaven on Friday, New Years Day, January 1, 2016 at 11:28 a.m. She was born on February 6, 1925 in New Orleans, Louisiana to the late Valentine and Margaret Decker. Mary is preceded in death by her husband of 57 years, Alvin Julian Jaufre, Sr. and brothers, Walter Apken, Sr. and William ‘Willie’ Guillie, as well as grandson Nicholas Paul Julian Barrios. She is survived by her daughters, Deborah Gottardi (Anthony Daleo), Denise Barrios, Susan Riehle and Elise Sheffield (husband, Tom); son Alvin, Jr. (wife, Cindy); nine grandchildren, Jeffrey Barrios, George Gottardi, Jr. (wife, Candice), Jill Jaufre, Jacquelyn Riehle, Gia Elsensohn (husband, Keith), Alvin Jaufre, III (wife, Tanya), Kathryn Mayo (husband, Patrick), Madison and Parker Sheffield; ten great grandchildren, Georgia Rose, Graeme, Haylee and Jackson, Deacon, London and Niko, Liam, Mattie and Brody; and many nephews, nieces and cousins. Mary enjoyed being surrounded by her family and always made others feel like they were part of her family. Mary was a graduate of Walter Cohen High School in New Orleans, Louisiana. She worked at Higgins Shipyard supporting the military’s efforts during World War II. Mary worked numerous jobs through the years to support her family. Her last employment was working for her husband as an administrative assistant and partner of NIVLA Income Tax Service. Mary will always be remembered as a devoted and caring mother, grandmother, great grandmother, aunt, cousin and friend and will be deeply missed. Mary’s family is extremely thankful for the care she received from her physicians and their teams, as well as The Heart of Hospice who treated her with kindness and compassion. Relatives and friends are invited to attend the Funeral Mass celebrating Mary’s life at L.A. Muhleisen and Son Funeral Home, 2607 Williams Blvd., Kenner on Thursday, January 7, 2016 at 10:00 a.m. Visitation will begin at 9:00 a.m. Interment in Biloxi National Cemetery, 400 Veterans Avenue, Biloxi, MS at 1:30 p.m. In Mary’s memory, Masses or donations to St. Jude Children’s Hospital will be appreciated.
