Mary Jane Oliver Curson
May 28, 1953 - May 8, 2021
Mary Jane Oliver Curson passed away on Saturday, May 8, 2021 at the age of 67. She was a native of Indianapolis, IN and was a resident of Kenner, LA. Beloved mother of Eric Curson (Holly Campo), Gregory Curson (Elizabeth Curson) and Cory Curson (Katie Peters). Grandmother of Lily Curson and Iris Curson. Daughter of the late Phyliss M. Dickmann and Walter A. Oliver. Sister of Walter Oliver (Evelyn Oliver) and Richard Oliver (Leona Oliver). The former wife of Bruce Alan Curson. Survived by countless nieces and nephews. Close friends of Brenda Eads, and Sue Foster and the late Therese Butler and Charlene Lynch. Mary Jane was dedicated to many things in her tremendous life. First and foremost, she was a loving mother, grandmother, and friend – she would do anything for her family and friends. She loved to host parties and gatherings, no matter the size. Mary Jane was always willing to open her door for anyone and any reason, whether it was a birthday, New Year’s celebration, or providing a place to stay during hurricane evacuations. Sports were a huge part of Mary Jane’s life. She was an avid fan of the New Orleans Saints and rarely missed a game, whether she was in the Superdome or watching on TV. Being a native of Indianapolis, Indy racing was her obsession. She was overjoyed when the Indy 500 was on her birthday. She was also a supporter of Indiana University, where she obtained a degree in Radiography, which led to a career as a Radiology Tech then Supervisor in Radiology. She loved her coworkers unconditionally and would give her all to assist them in any way. She sacrificed a great deal of time to make her department a better environment for all. Mary Jane loved being out in nature – fishing, hanging out on the beach, bird watching, and most recently, spending time in her granddaughters’ butterfly garden. Mary Jane was fascinated by astronomy. She could be found outside staring at the stars when any event, no matter how minor, was occurring at her location. She loved to travel with family and friends and was willing to join any group that was hitting the road or air. But she also loved to attend the events New Orleans had to offer, always wanting to go to every parade and outdoor concert. Mary Jane embraced the Louisiana culture and shared it with her family and friends visiting from out of town. She also loved all pets. She rescued many dogs and cats that were strays or were in shelters. There wasn’t a dog or cat Mary Jane met that she didn’t want to spend time with. And in her quiet moments, she loved to read – whodunits and forensic mysteries. Most of all, Mary Jane loved life and lived it her way.
