    Josephine (Jo) Mary Bruno Penn

    January 24, 1925 - April 5, 2016

    Josephine (Jo) Mary Bruno Penn, age 91. Born in New Orleans on January 24, 1925 and died on April 5, 2016. Widow of Samuel Arthur Penn. Daughter of the late Sam Bruno and the late Rose Muth Bruno. Sister of the late Frances B. Bertucci and the late Sami B. Legendre. Loving mother of five devoted children; Rossana P. Hebert (Darrell), Christina P. Martin (Mo Saleh), Michael B. Penn (Annette), Sam B. Penn (Irene), and Catherine P. Cutress (Kevin). Beloved grandmother of Rose M. Cooper (Matthew), Wilson Martin III, Jonathan Ziabari, Genevieve Walgomatte, Justin Hebert, Aimee H. Ethridge (Sammy), Sarah H. McGinnis (Jamie), Katie P. Calcagno (Cory), Jason Giammaria (Jenny), Mark Giammaria, and Scott Shaw (Karen). Great-Grandmother of Jayce, Alexander, Gabriella, Samuel, Vaiden, Kaysen, Gianna, Camden, Luke, Rachel, and Rebecca. Great-Great-Grandmother of Dawson. Also survived by nieces, nephews, and friends. Jo was a resident of Kenner since 1972 and a recipient of the St. Louis Medallion. She retired from Charity Hospital’s admitting department after 30 years. As a devoted parishioner of Nativity of Our Lord Catholic Church and Divine Mercy Catholic Church, she was a former Eucharistic minister for her parish, E. J. Hospital, and the homebound. She was a charter member of the Sociable Seniors at Nativity of Our Lord and Divine Mercy, a member of Nativity of Our Lord Ladies Auxiliary, and a former church bulletin editor. Jo loved to read, cook, and sew. She was happiest surrounded by her loving children, their families, and her little Chihuahua, Rosey. Friends and family are invited to attend a Funeral Mass at 1:00 PM on Tuesday, April 12, 2016 at Divine Mercy Catholic Church, 4337 Sal Lentini Pkwy., Kenner, LA. Visitation will be held at the church from 11:00 am - 1:00 pm. A celebration of Josephine’s life will follow at the Divine Mercy Parish Community Center. Interment will be at a later date at Jefferson Memorial Gardens Cemetery, St. Rose, LA. Arrangements by L. A. Muhleisen & Son Funeral Home.
