Henry Richard Merritt passed away on Monday, December 17, 2018 at the age of 79. He was a native of Buenos Aires, Argentina and a resident of Metairie, Louisiana. Henry attended lower school in Argentina and Uruguay and graduated high school from Sewanee Military Academy in Tennessee. He was a proud graduate of Louisiana State University in Baton Rouge and earned a degree in business administration. He was a member of the U.S. Army Reserves for 6 years serving in the medical corps. In his professional career, Henry worked for many years at Hibernia Bank, Pelican Homestead, French Market Homestead and retired from John H. Carter in 2005. He was blessed to have many close, lifelong friends. One of his greatest passions was his support of LSU athletics and the New Orleans Saints. Beloved husband of Elaine Bianca Merritt. Father of Michelle Lorusso (Nick), Melanie Hebert (Jay), Marsha Sperier(Archie) and Michael Merritt (Tammy). Grandfather of Nicholas, Sophia and Katherine Lorusso, Jack, Maggie and Amelie Hebert, Camille and Ellie Sperier, Hunter, Avery and Cody Merritt. Son of the late Agnes Pettigrew Merritt and Maxwell Melville Merritt. Brother of Mary Merritt Rodrigue and Peter Merritt. Also survived by many nieces and nephews. Relatives and friends are invited to attend the Funeral Mass at St. Pius X Catholic Church, 6666 Spanish Fort Blvd., New Orleans on Saturday, December 22, 2018 at 12:00 p.m. Visitation at the church from 10:00 a.m. to 12:00 p.m. Arrangements by L. A. Muhleisen & Son Funeral Home. Private interment in Live Oak Cemetery, Pass Christian, MS. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to Mount Carmel Academy, Jesuit High School or LSU Cadets of the Ole War Skule.
