Bertha Lee Bordelon Laborde

April 26, 1927 - December 22, 2021

Bertha Lee Bordelon Laborde was born in Bordelonville, Louisiana, where she was raised before moving to New Orleans as a teenager, marrying her love and moving to Kenner, and ultimately making a home in River Ridge, where she lived for more than 60 years. She left this world to join her loved ones in Heaven on the morning of Wednesday, December 22, 2021, at the age of 94 (and a half), after living a full life of faith, kindness, caring, and generosity, right until her passing. She was the greatest matriarch and a wonderful cook. For many years, she worked as a baker at St. Matthew the Apostle Catholic School, where she was also a church parishioner. We couldn’t leave her house without being given food to take home. She had the biggest heart, and she always had us laughing. Nobody could know “Mrs. Bertha” (our “Mom” and “Mimi”) without adoring her. She was predeceased by her beloved husband of 54 years, Bernard Eugene Laborde, also of Bordelonville; her daughter Carleen Laborde Hughes; her son Don Kenneth Laborde, Sr.; her grandson Jacob Laborde; her parents Lehman and Anita Bordelon; and her siblings Elster Bordelon, Lehman Bordelon, Mary Lemoine, Lola Desselle, Pearl Blair, Adeline Dewailly, and Shirley Bennett. Bertha is survived by her daughter Rhonda Laborde Johnson and her husband Nicky; her grandchildren Michelle Laborde, Christy Johnson Simeon and her husband Kelvin, Don Laborde and his wife Kelly, Alexis Hughes Fox and her husband Jonathan, and Emily Laborde Pitts and her husband Justin; her great-grandchildren Courtni Murray Green and her husband D.J., Connor Murray, Gavin Simeon, and Wesley Laborde; her great-great-grandchildren Presley Green and Jake Green; her sister Anita May and her husband Joe; her son-in-law Daniel Hughes; and a host of in-laws, nieces, nephews, and other loved ones. Private services were held to celebrate Bertha’s life.
