Willis "Bill" John Williams Jr.

Willis "Bill" John Williams Jr., a beloved husband, father, grandfather, great-grandfather, and community leader, passed away peacefully at his home on Thursday, August 29, 2024. He was 93 years old. Born on September 26, 1930, in St. Rose, Louisiana, Willis was a dedicated and devout Catholic and a member of St. Angela Merici Church for 60 years, where he served as a Eucharistic Minister and was honored with the St. Louis Medallion. He was also a Grand Knight of the Knights of Columbus, reflecting his lifelong commitment to his faith and community. A proud veteran of the Korean War, Willis served as a Marine and was a charter member of American Legion Post 350. His passion for community service extended to many organizations, including the Lions Club, the Society of Forty and Eight, and the Coffee Club. He was an active member of the Krewe of Carrollton, where he was an officer and reigned as King in 1994. His love for Mardi Gras and his involvement in local traditions were hallmarks of his vibrant life. Willis was an avid golfer, a long-time member of Colonial Country Club, and a staunch supporter of the LSU Tigers. He also enjoyed gardening and cherished time spent with his family. For 74 years, he worked at General Mill Supplies, where his customers were more like family to him. He was preceded in death by his loving wife of 74 years, Joyce E. Williams; his brother, Oneil Williams; his sister, Leatrice Kittok; and his grandson, Hudson B. Williams. Willis is survived by his children, Cindy Faison (Ralph), Willis J. Williams III, and Aline Chiasson (David); his grandchildren, Paul, Sarah, Brady, and Blake; and his great-grandchildren, Scout and Vivianne. A visitation will be held at St. Angela Merici Church, 901 Beverly Garden Drive, on Thursday, September 5, from 10:30am-12pm, followed by a Mass of Christian Burial. Interment will take place at Garden of Memories, 4900 Airline Drive. A celebration of life will follow the burial at the Lions Club of Metairie, 1627 Metairie Road. The family would like to extend their heartfelt thanks to the angelic caregivers Karen, Odalis, Monic, Irene, and Lise, as well as the Passages Hospice staff, for their compassionate care and support. In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made in memory of Willis to a charity of your choice.
