Wilbur "Mickey" "Gene" Paul Giarrusso, Sr.

Wilbur “Mickey” “Gene” Paul Giarrusso, Sr. passed away peacefully surrounded by family on Wednesday, January 25, 2017 at the age of 91. Wilbur known by his ship mates as "Gene” proudly served his country in World War II while stationed on the USS Alabama from 1944-47 and received 9 battle stars. He was a native of New Orleans and long time resident of Kenner for over 55 years, and was appointed to numerous committees by Joe Yenni including serving on the Sewerage and Water Board which eventually resulted in obtaining federal funding to build a new sewerage plant. He was devotedly employed for 25 years by Falstaff Brewing Company and Qualichem. Concurrently with the aforementioned, he also served on the Kenner Planning and Zoning Board for over 35 years. Our dad, Paw Paw, also known as Mr. G by many will surely be missed but never forgotten. He had a special way of connecting with everyone and leaving a lasting legacy with each one of us. A man of leadership, honor, and goodness. You could see his happiness by his smile when he was with his prized possession his FAMILY. He was preceded in death by his beloved wife, Claire Fossier Giarrusso. Loving father of Ronald Giarrusso (Jo Ann), Donnie Giarrusso (Candy), Charice Gilmore (David), Tammy Sivori (Thomas), Michael “Mickey” Giarrusso (Debbie), Jerry Giarrusso, Ray Giarrusso, Cindy Calub (Lindsay) and the late Wilbur “Billy” Paul Giarrusso, Jr. (Cheryl) and Pamela Giarrusso. Grandfather of 24, Melissa (Kevin), Becky (Jim), Amy (Trey), Trey (Margaret), Carrie (Jeff), Olivia (Tony), Jennifer (Mark), Donnie, Angela (John), Chad (Gabe), Brad (Alicia), David, Trevor, Charlie (Allison), Rochelle (Clem), Stacy, Nikki (Jeff), Michael (Julie), Julia, Jena, Ryan (Michelle), Derek, Samantha (Kyle) and the late Brandon Paul Giarrusso. Great grandfather of 42, Emma, Ainsley, Wyatt, Tatum, Egan, Embry, Eliza, Easton, Avery, Dominic, Aranza, Calvin, Adrian, Zoe, Ana, Dominic, Isabella, Mikaela, Hayden, Hannah, Josh, Ben, Destiny, Madison, Teagan, Reese, Hudson, Sammy, Hunter, Bria, Kayleigh, Presley, Mia, Jaida, Sophia, Audrey, Andrea, Luke, Joshua, Caydence, Alexander and the late Fiona Claire Wallis. He is also survived by in laws (Audrey Wedig, Leonard Fossier and Judy Bono),and many nieces,nephews,cousins and friends. Son of the late Harold Joseph Giarrusso, Sr. and Ethel Young Giarrusso. Brother of Anna Mary Strohmeyer (Bob) and the late Harold Joseph Giarrusso, Jr. Relatives and friends are invited to attend the Funeral Mass at L.A. Muhleisen & Son Funeral Home, 2607 Williams Blvd., Kenner on Tuesday, January 31, 2017 at 12:00 p.m. Visitation will begin at 9:00 a.m. Interment in Greenwood Cemetery.
