Verdel Marie Cage

Verdel M. Cage was called home to her eternal resting place on Saturday, May 25, 2024, surrounded by her daughter and family in Broken Arrow, Oklahoma. She was born to Elliot Brown Sr. and Cecilia Hall Brown on October 15, 1933 in New Orleans, Louisiana. She graduated from Washington High School in Kenner, LA. She married Joseph T. Allen in 1951 and raised their four children, Joseph III, Sandra, Charles, and Keith. Verdel later married Albert J. Cage on March 5, 1979. Verdel was a member of Little Zion Missionary Baptist Church under the leadership of the late Rev. Arthur P. Clay and presently Rev. Leroy A. Taylor. She loved the Lord and was a regular church attendee on Sundays. Her favorite scripture was Psalm 138:1 which reads “I will praise thee with my whole heart: Before the gods will I sing praise unto thee.” Verdel was an active member of the Pastor Support Ministry, Willing Workers, and Beautifying Club. She always made sure that the altar was dressed in white for Passion Week. She loved her pastor, Rev. Leroy Taylor, dearly. She loved preparing her delicious bread pudding for many of her church’s functions, always with a big smile. Verdel was passionate about cooking, sewing, and working in her flower beds and on crafts. She also enjoyed entertaining family and friends. Verdel was a wonderful person who was well loved. She went by many endeared names such as Teedy, Ba Bell, and Vert. She was the rock of the family and will be missed by many especially her loving close friends, Mary Adams and Connie Bell. She was preceded in death by her husband of 40 years, Albert J. Cage Sr., her mother, Cecilia H. Brown, and her father, Elliot Brown Sr., siblings, Bernice Edwards, Marion Robinson, Therese Sellers, Edwin Brown and Ralph Brown. She leaves to cherish her memories her brother, Elliot Brown Jr., sister-in-law, Rita Franklin; her children, Joseph Allen III (Regina); Sandra Allen, Charles R. Allen,(Delicious); Keith Allen, (Natia); a host of grandchildren, Tanya Haynes (Dwayne), Tracey Knighten (Franchise), Dion Allen, Carla Breaux (Tyrone), Teressa Allen (Stacy), Shawn Blantcher, Michael Allen (Laticia) and Kamara Allen. She was surrounded by many great-grandchildren, great-great grandchildren, and a wealth of nieces and nephews, family, and friends. Relatives and friends are invited to attend the Visitation and Funeral Service on Saturday, June 8, 2024 at Little Zion Missionary Baptist Church, 2200 Kenner Ave., Kenner, LA 70062. Visitation from 9:00 a.m. to 10:00 a.m., followed by Funeral Service at 10:00 a.m. Interment to follow at Providence Memorial Park & Mausoleum, 8200 Airline Dr., Metairie, LA 70003
