Shirley Mae Hafer

Shirley Mae Hafer, age 93, who was born September 9, 1927 in McDonoghville, passed away on Monday July 19, 2021. Shirley was a retired Human Resources Manager and lived in Ponchatoula for 30 years, she then moved to the Metairie/Kenner area. She is predeceased by her loving husband of 50 years, George W. Hafer and her second husband, Gerald Heard. She was a loving person who was full of life and always had a great sense of humor. She was the youngest child and only daughter of the late Henry Sylvan Vicknair and Gerturde Agnes Fabre and stepdaughter of Pearl Vicknair (deceased). Stepsister to A.J. Thibodeaux (deceased) wife Betty, Zola Thibodeaux husband Leon (deceased) and Joyce Thibodeaux. Loving mother of Kenneth W Hafer and wife Theresa of Metairie, Patricia Hafer-Plunkett and husband Lamar of Citrus Springs, FL and Vicki Hafer-Cimo and husband Brett Cimo of Houston, TX. Also survived by grandchildren, Jennifer Badeaux (Michelle Sweeney), Jessica Badeaux (Walter Ostlie), Allisyn Hafer, Frederick Burmaster and great grandchildren, Kole Badeaux, Cadyn Badeaux and Ethan Burmaster. She is predeceased by her brothers, Henry Vicknair, Stanley Vicknair and wife Verma, and Mervyn Vicknair and Adele (living sister-in-law and lifelong friend). Step-sister to A.J. Thibodeaux (deceased) wife Betty, Zola Thibodeaux husband Leon (deceased) and Joyce Thibodeaux. She is survived by the family of Gerald Heard including son Nolen R. Heard and wife Fay of Hammond, Sandy Heard and wife Susan of Gainesville, Georgia, sister Alice Forrest and husband Ed of Hammond. She is predeceased by Rev Carol Daye Heard. Her extended family also includes grandchildren, great grandchildren, nieces. nephews, great nieces and great nephews. She will be dearly missed by her family and friends especially her close friends Anna Cornwell and Emily Gros who looked after her and enjoyed her company for many years. She will be buried alongside George William Hafer at the Veterans Cemetery in Zachary, La. Graveside services will be held for immediate family on Friday, July 23,2021.
