Martha Lambert

Martha King Lambert, beloved matriarch and friend, passed away peacefully at the age of 90 on Wednesday, January 10, 2024. She was born on November 2, 1933 to Elbert and Sallie King. She grew up in Dentville, Mississippi, under the wing of three older siblings, Elaine, Donald and Harold, who affectionately referred to her as “Sister.” She graduated from Hazlehurst High School, where she was a track and basketball star, before moving to New Orleans where she fondly remembered her time employed as an operator at BellSouth. Soon after moving, she met the love of her life, Edward Lambert at a restaurant/bar in St. Rose, the small town that she would call home for the rest of her life. Martha and “Eddie” were married on October 10, 1958 and immediately built a family of five with the birth of their children Sally, Ed and Mary Jane. They established a legacy of gathering and celebration throughout their 30 years of marriage at their family home on River Road where together they farmed and raised livestock. One of the greatest joys of Martha’s life was being a MawMaw to granddaughters Megan and Mandy, who eventually made her a great-grandmother to Aubrey, Jayda, Christopher, Chaz, Cruz, James and Linen. Martha, whose middle name should have been “GO,” was constantly surrounded by girlfriends and always up for an adventure on a bus trip or to the casino. She was an accomplished bowler and played in many leagues throughout her life, including most recently Short Notice and Cartier Gems. An avid sports fan, Martha adored the New Orleans Saints, through the good times and bad. She loved Mardi Gras just as much as she loved coffee, Diet Coke, Skip Bo, bright lipstick, statement earrings and big sunglasses. She will be remembered for her larger than life charm, quick wit, bright smile, contagious laugh and intoxicating sass. She is preceded in death by her husband, Edward Lambert. She is survived by her children Sally (Bruce) Schexnaydre, Ed (Brian) Lambert, Mary Jane (Susan) Lambert; grandchildren Megan (Chris) Westbrook, Mandy (Freddie) Wienhusen; and great-grandchildren Aubrey, Jayda, Christopher, Chaz, Cruz, James and Linen. Relatives and friends are invited to attend the Visitation and Funeral Service on Saturday, January 13, 2024 at L. A. Muhleisen and Son Funeral Home, 2607 Williams Blvd., Kenner. Visitation from 9:00 a.m. to 10:30 a.m., followed by Funeral Service at 10:30 a.m. Interment to follow at Jefferson Memorial Gardens, 11316 River Rd, St. Rose.
