Luisa Miriam Hera Gonsoulin On October 1, 2023 at 1:37 in the afternoon Luisa “ Miriam “ Gonsoulin competed her earthly test and returned home to be with Jesus. Born on May 22,1954 in Camaguey, Cuba Miriam lived with her mother( Escolastica ) father ( Teodoro) and eventually younger brother George until the small family immigrated to New Orleans, La in 1967. She attended St. Louis Cathedral, St Raphael, Holy Angels Academy and John F Kennedy High School from which she graduated in1974. She married her “ Gringo” Wayne Gonsoulin on May 24, 1974 and had a son, Wayne Gonsoulin Jr on May 16, 1977. Over the years Miriam worked for Schwegmann’s Supermarket, Bagert’s House of Formals, WNOE and WWL radio stations, Key Royal Automotive and Seccion Amarillo. Most of Miriam’s work experience was as a receptionist. Her warm, welcoming demeanor and gorgeous smile quickly endeared her to co-workers and guests alike. She excelled as an advertising sales rep with Seccion Amarillo where her firm convictions and infectious personality served her well. To say she was not easily deterred is an understatement. That same determination and refuse to lose attitude helped her fight outrageously for the past 5 1/2 years of her life. Miriam thoroughly enjoyed her escapades with the RAMP Girls ( Rose, Alice, Miriam, Pam). Their frequent cruises and trips to Las Vegas were the highlights of her years. Miriam enjoyed her gardens, cooking, shopping, peace and quiet, and fresh coffee. She enthusiastically supported her husband’s karaoke singing where she was proudly known as “ Gonzo’s Wife “ But Miriam’s greatest joy in life was her three grandchildren, Natalie, Noah and Jonah Gonsoulin. She adored them, spoiled them and till the end fought for them. A better friend you will not find. If something was troubling you, Miriam always had the time and an empathetic ear to listen. You could always depend on Miriam to be in your corner to support you, encourage you, repair, counsel and even scold you when necessary. Look up the definition of “ Unconditional Love” and there is a picture of Miriam. If Miriam loved you, you were loved for life and she defended you to the edge of the universe. You always knew where you stood with Miriam and you felt safe. She was as consistent as “ true north”, she had no ulterior motives and was honest to a fault. Funny, excitable,compassionate, joyous,genuine, engaging,loving, intuitive, considerate, beautiful…..there aren’t enough adjectives to do her justice. Miriam has 8 Godchildren. What’s that tell ya? Miriam is survived by her spouse of 49 years Wayne Gonsoulin, her son Wayne Gonsoulin Jr ( Leah), her grandchildren Natalie (11) , Noah (9)and Jonah(7)Gonsoulin, her brother George Hera (Denise), nephews Casey and Blake Hera, nieces Christina and Caroline Hera and numerous other relatives. Relatives and friends are invited to attend the Visitation at Divine Mercy Catholic Church, 4337 Sal Lentini Blvd, Kenner on Saturday, October 21 from 10 a.m. to 12 p.m. Funeral Mass at 12 p.m. Internment in Garden of Memories Cemetery will be held at a later date.
