Lacey Alma Sanders

“She was the brightest light.” “We could all take a lesson from her kindness.” “A selfless servant to all her patients.” “A fun, loveable soul.” These are just a few of the hundreds of tributes written upon learning of Lacey's passing. Lacey Alma Sanders was born on September 27, 1982, in Metairie, LA, and passed away on March 17, 2026, in her home in Gretna, LA, at the age of 43 years old. She is survived by her mother, Melanie Comeaux Carwile, and her father, Richard Sanders. She is also survived by her bonus parents, Cecil Carwile and Nora Sanders, her loving sisters, Erika and Megan Sanders, step-grandmother, Lucy Cannata, step-siblings, Alan, Caitlin, Stevie, and Sean Carwile, and niece, Lucy Hicks, her beloved fur baby, Australian Shepard, Izzie, as well as a multitude of extended family and friends. She was preceded in death by her maternal grandparents, Camilla “Connie” and Amadee “Slats” Comeaux of New Orleans, and paternal grandparents Clinton and Alma Sanders of Galliano, LA, step-grandfather, Frank Cannata, as well as her beloved fur baby, “Brownie Bear”. Lacey was a proud graduate of Archbishop Chapelle High School in Metairie, LA, “Class of 2000”. She played the clarinet in the Rummel Raider Marching Band, eventually working her way up to first chair. In 2006, she went on to graduate from Charity School of Nursing in New Orleans, LA. Lacey was a talented nurse and mentor. For 18 years, she touched many lives through her career as an ICU RN and Clinical Supervisor at Touro Infirmary and had recently transferred to the PACU at University Medical Center. She loved her patients, whom she treated with great respect and compassion. Lacey was loved and respected by all her colleagues. Lacey was a proud member of one of New Orleans' most well-known all-female marching krewes, the Pussyfooters. She had just celebrated her 10th year with the Pussyfooters and was an essential dance leader for the group. Her infectious smile and magnetic personality were given an outlet to bring joy to the community through dance and service, while adorned in pink and orange. Lacey loved New Orleans, and the city loved her back. She thrived in this city that appreciates big personalities, loud laughs, late celebrations, and lots of love. She was real, raw, funny, and willing to lend an ear to anyone who needed it. Whether it was for celebration, sympathy, or the purpose of encouragement, she would often invite others to share a cold beverage, and if you were lucky, her awesome gumbo. She had the ability to see the silver lining in everything and helped others see it, too. Lacey was a savant with an eyeshadow palette, the first on the dance floor, and a devoted best friend to many. Her loved ones take great comfort in the knowledge that she is resting in the loving arms of God. She will be deeply missed by all those who were blessed to have known her and those who called her their best friend. Lacey’s Celebration of Life will be held on Saturday, March 28th, with visitation from 2pm - 4pm, and a memorial service to follow at 4pm at Muhleisen’s Funeral Home, 2607 Williams Blvd, Kenner, LA 70062.
