Minister Johnie Mae Beasley-Mitchell

On September 15, 1937, Minister Johnie Mae Beasley-Mitchell, was born to the late Mary Lee “Totsy” Harris-Beasley and John Beasley, Jr. She departed this life Tuesday, February 21, 2023 in her Kenner residence at the age of 85. She married the love of her life, Mr. Bobby Louis Mitchell, Sr. on April 23, 1963. Her commitment to Christ was made at Parson Hill Missionary Baptist Church in Liberty, Mississippi at an early age. Johnie Mae had a strong desire to motivate, educate and equip people through the Word of God. She was ordained by Archbishop Earnest J. Johnson of the Israel Universal Divine Spiritual Churches of Christ on February 5, 1999. She diligently and faithfully was a member of St. Anthony Divine S.C.C under the leadership of Bishop C. Browder of Kenner, LA. Johnie Mae was a devoted wife, mother, daughter, sister, aunt and grandmother. Aside from baking and cooking, she enjoyed spending time with family and friends. Her compassion was unimaginable. Her heart and her generosity knew no bounds. Her doors were always open-literally. She rarely locked it. You could just walk in and people often did. Neighbors, friends, immediate family and relatives. Just to enjoy her hospitality, generosity as well as her infamous cornbread dressing, cakes and custard pie. The door was always open and the food was always plentiful. Her cooking was often described as “food for the soul”. She leaves to cherish her memories Ray P. Beasley, Bobby Charles, Gerald (Deborah), Daren (Glenda) and Cassandra (Earnest Brown) Mitchell. Her two sisters, Louise Loydrake (Wilmer) and Lillian Jackson (John Charles), 17 grandchildren, 27 great-grandchildren and 3 great-great grandchildren. She also leaves a host of other family members and friends. She is preceded in death by her husband, Bobby Louis Mitchell, Sr., her parents Mary Lee Harris-Beasley and John Beasley, Jr., four sons: Dexter, Anthony, Gregory and Steven and one daughter Janet Elizabeth Mitchell; seven sisters: Annie Ruth Frith, Brenda Beasley, Mary Helen Graziano, Susan Robinson and Christine Beasley and Gloria Dean Beasley-McGehee, Minnie Beasley and three brothers: Walter and David Beasley and Leroy Hall, one grandson Jonathan Beasley and one great-grandson Demarius Bickham, Sr. Relatives and friends are invited to attend a Memorial Service at 11:00 AM on Saturday, March 4, 2023 at L.A. Muhleisen & Son, 2607 Williams Blvd, Kenner, LA 70062. Visitation will begin at 10:00 AM. A Repass will immediately follow the service.
