John Albert Behlar

Surrounded by his daughters and family, John Albert Behlar left his earthly home at the young age of 70, after a brief battle with a respiratory illness. John was born October 4, 1955, the son of the late Arthur Michael Behlar, Jr. and Audrey Callaway Behlar. John was a Brother Martin Alum and lived his life as a New Orleanian. He will be remembered by thousands of customers who he served ‘with style’ as a sales associate at Jeff’s Haberdashery where he spent the majority of his career. He was originally drawn to the business for his interest in fashion, but he stayed for his love of the people. Fellow workers and customers, from near and far will remember John for making their shopping experiences fun, and for always going the extra mile. He even opened the store once for a customer who had lost his dad on a Friday and needed a suit for Monday; so on Sunday, he opened the store and provided the perfect outfit! John was quick witted, good natured and loved some friendly banter. John was also committed to his spiritual life and believed in sharing ‘good energy’ as he interacted with others, especially those experiencing tough times. One of his favorite sayings, ‘You can’t always get what you want, but if you try, you will get what you need!” John enjoyed his large family and as a youngster enjoyed his life through the lives of his brothers, their music and careers, and his sister Jean’s cooking!!, and in later life, he enjoyed love and laughter in spending time with his grandson Colston! John had seven siblings and two daughters whom he cherished, Brittney Elizabeth Behlar (Joshua Espinoza) and Katherine Elizabeth Stroyewski (Chad) and grandson Colston. John also leaves behind sixteen nieces and nephews and a growing number of GREAT nieces and nephews. He was brother to the late Arthur Michael Behlar, III, Brian Behlar (Julie), Donald Behlar (Tara Rousset), Sean Behlar (Kelly), and sisters Audrey Behlar Gibson (Gerry) and Cindy Behlar White (Terry) and Ellen Behlar. And one of his favorite thoughts: “you’re never alone as long as you love the one you’re with”. Relatives and friends are invited to attend his Celebration of Life on Thursday, August 20, 2026 at Kenner City Park Pavilion, 3800 Loyola Drive, Kenner, LA 70065.
