Janet Marie Kaleher

With profound sadness, the family of Janet Marie Kaleher announces her passing on March 12, 2024 at the age of 71 in Metairie, Louisiana. Born on May 17, 1952 in Louisville, Kentucky, Janet, affectionately known as Jan, led a life marked by compassion and service as a dedicated registered nurse for more than three decades. Jan's commitment to her profession was rivaled only by her passion for scuba diving. The serenity of the ocean depths was a treasured escape, allowing her the freedom to explore and delight in the world below the waves. Bereft yet celebrating her memory are Jan's siblings: Janice K. Findley, Patrick Kaleher (Laura) and Mary Villarrubia (Mike). Her spirit lives on in her adored nephews: David Findley (Mindy), Jason Findley (Jan), Timothy Kaleher, Dalton Villarrubia (Valerie) and Jared Villarrubia, as well as in her cherished niece Brittany Garay (Joseph). Her great-nieces and great-nephews: Ryan, Addison F., Jason Jr., Olivia, Joseph, Raegan, Genevieve and Addison V. will miss their Aunt Jan/Nana's warmth and joy. Janet rejoins in eternal peace with her late father Arthur William Kaleher, Jr., her mother Lois May Livers, her brother Arthur William Kaleher, III and her brother-in-law Harlan David Findley, who preceded her in rest. Janet's life was defined by her caring nature, her bravery in the face of life's challenges and her unwavering love for her family and patients. At the age of 17, she took on a motherly role to her younger siblings along with her best friend and twin, Janice (affectionately known as Toad or Toady by close friends and family). She was a caregiver to all and an integral part of the Kaleher family. As dedicated as she was to her family, she was just as loyal and caring to the nursing field. She was aptly known as “Mama Jan” by her coworkers at Ochsner, where she served patients for over 30 years in the PICU, NICU, cardiology clinic and other wings. Jan was treasured and valued by coworkers and patients alike. She leaves behind a legacy of altruism and a deep-seated belief in the goodness of humankind. Relatives and friends are invited to attend a Funeral Mass at 1:00 PM on Monday, March 18, 2024 at L.A. Muhleisen & Son, 2607 Williams Blvd., Kenner, LA 70062. Visitation will begin at 10:00 AM. In place of floral offerings, those who wish to honor Janet's legacy are encouraged to make a charitable donation to St. Joseph’s Indian School, an institution reflecting her deep concern for others and generosity of spirit.
