George Peter Robbins, III

George Peter Robbins, III passed away at his home in New Orleans on Tuesday, April 7, 2015. Native and lifelong resident of New Orleans, age 74 years. Beloved husband of 24 years of Patricia C. Barstow Robbins. Loving father of Peter Robbins (Susan), John Robbins (Carolyn), William S. Elder III (Terri) and Jack R. Elder (Ramona). Devoted Grandfather of Joshua, Rachel and Anna Robbins, Sophia and Isabelle Elder and Japheth and John O’Connor. Loving uncle of Kathleen L. Dever and Jennifer Legnon. Peter is preceded in death by his parents, the late G. Peter and Lora Hagen Robbins II, his sister Cynthia L. Dever and his son George Wesley Elder. A graduate of Culver Military Academy, he attended Tulane University where he received his B.S. in Electrical Engineering. At first working for his father’s firm, Robbins and Robbins, he then started his own electrical supply representative firm Mackenroth and Robbins, then Redmann-Robbins and eventually joining the Siemans Corporation until he retired in 2003. A devoted and longtime member of St. Patrick Catholic Church Parish, he served for many years on the Church Council. He was also 1963 Representative for his Electrical Engineering Class at Tulane and a member of Phi Kappa Sigma Fraternity. Lifetime member of the IEEE and ISA organizations, president of the local chapter of The National Electrical Manufacturers Association as well as having served on the National Board then as Regional Vice President of NEMR. Peter was a longtime member of many carnival organizations, most notably with REX/School of Design. Peter was a true gourmand and wine enthusiast; one of his great passions in life was traveling with his wife Patricia, most often to visit the great wine producing regions of Europe and California. Relatives and friends are invited to attend the Mass of Christian Burial to be held on Saturday, April 11, 2015 at St. Patrick Catholic Church, 724 Camp St., New Orleans, at 10:00 AM with Visitation beginning at 9:00 AM. Interment following at Cypress Grove Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, the family respectfully requests that donations be made to the Servants of Mary,5001 Perlita St., New Orleans, LA 70122.
