Evelyn Buford Crowley

Evelyn Buford Crowley passed away peacefully on Monday, January 13, 2025. She was born to the late Joseph S. Buford, Sr. and Alzina Fitzner Buford on February 5th, 1939, known as their miracle baby, because she was less than two pounds at birth and not expected to survive. She was the beloved sister of the late William D. Buford (Thelma), Harry J. Buford (Barbara), Joseph S. Buford, Jr. (Rena)(Alice), James A. Buford (Lenora)(Nell), Catherine Lofaso (Joseph), Verna Machado (Leo), Lorraine Hemphill (James), Ruth Davis (Dave), and survived by sister Linda Fabre (Rudy). She was the caring wife to James J. Crowley, Sr., in which their love graced the world with four children: Colleen C. Davis (Ricky), Timothy P. Crowley (Cathie), Kevin J. Crowley (Donna), and James J. Crowley, Jr. (Cindy). Her children blessed her with eleven grandchildren. She was a devoted Maw-Maw to Shane Davis (Julie), Christopher Davis (Krystin), Megan Rehage (Ian), Tara Crowley, Joshua Crowley, Justin Crowley (Juliette), Logan Crowley, Madelyn Crowley, Brianna Everett, Savannah Crowley, and James Crowley III. She was also known as ‘Gigi’ (or great-grandmother) to Gabbie Davis, Gavin Davis, Bryce Davis, Cohen Davis, Paityn Rehage, Truman Crowley, Harrison Crowley, and Grant Crowley. She was also an adoring aunt to her many loving nieces and nephews. Evelyn, a true New Orleanian, was always full of life and a gracious host- enjoying her Mardi Gras parades, Saints games, French bread dipped into chicory coffee, and oyster po-boys. She was the type that started the morning with a crossword, enjoyed shopping and grabbing one of every color of something she liked, and finished the day curling up with a Danielle Steele novel. She made lifelong friends wherever she went, including her years of work at K-Mart and Dillard’s before her retirement. As her health began to require more constant care in her later years, she resided at the Landmark Nursing Center. She soon became a loving friend to the entire staff and even took upon the role of resident advocate, helping others in their transition of life. The family would like to give a special thanks to the nurses, aides, and staff at the Hammond Landmark Nursing Center and Life Source Hospice for their spectacular caregiving. Relatives and friends are invited to attend the funeral service at L.A. Muhleisen and Son Funeral Home at 2607 Williams Blvd. in Kenner, LA 70062 on Monday, January 20, 2025. Visitation will be held from 10:00 A.M. to 12:00 P.M., with the funeral service to immediately follow at 12:00 P.M.
