Etta Winn Dorty

Etta Winn Dorty, 91 years old, passed away on Thursday, August 24, 2017. She was born on June 23, 1926 in St. Landry, Louisiana to the late Randola Winn and Lizzie Smith Winn. Etta accepted Jesus Christ as her personal Lord and Savior at a young age. Through the years, she maintained her membership at Little Bethel Baptist Church in St. Landry. Etta attended Peabody High School to the 11th grade. She spent the next 65 years working professionally as a caregiver for the elderly, a cook and housekeeper. She married the late Aaron Dorty. From that union they had three children, Kathleen Stewart, Yvonne Hill (Edward) and Carolyn Cooley. Etta loved music and singing, especially the spiritual hymn found in Sacred Selections called ‘I’ll Be Listening.” Besides spending time with her family and friends, her favorite pastime was cooking and cleaning. Etta is survived by her brothers, Marion Winn (Audrey), Leslie Winn, R.D. Winn and Melvin Winn (Rosa Lee); her sister, Etter Faye Winn; her three daughters, Kathleen Stewart, Yvonne Hill (Edward) and Carolyn Cooley; her grandchildren, Steven Stewart, Lisa Stewart, James Johnson, Laurie Stewart (Chris), Charlene Brown (Rodrick), Dedrick Clark (Brandi), Tramaine Clark (Fimiko), and Michael Cooley; great-grandchildren, London Stewart, Joshua Stewart, Malcolm Hill, Acie Stewart III, Mya Stewart, Jada Stewart, Peyton Stewart, Bycen Brown, Baylie Brown, Tristen Brown, C.J. Clark, Ava Clark, Toyelle Acker, and Imani Brown; and a host of nieces, nephews, family and friends. Etta was preceded in death by her father, Randola Winn and mother, Lizzie Smith Winn; her brothers, Standus Winn, Robert Winn, and Winston Winn. Muhleisen & Son Funeral Home, 2607 Williams Blvd., Kenner from 5:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. A Funeral Service will be held at Little Bethel Baptist Church, 1064 St. Landry Hwy, St. Landry, LA on Saturday, September 2, 2017 at 11:00 a.m. Interment in Little Bethel Baptist Church Cemetery.
