Edwin John Kivell

Edwin John Kivell, charismatic husband and loving father of five, passed away at age seventy-eight on Saturday, December 10, 2022. Native to New Orleans, Edwin was born to Walter and Dixie Kivell. Edwin’s father passed away when he was only three years old and his mother, Dixie, persevered in raising six children on her own. Much of Edwin’s strength is attributed to his mother, who taught him the value of education. As a result, the twice graduate holds bachelor’s degrees from local universities Southeastern and Tulane. However, Edwin would say his greatest accomplishment in life was his family. Edwin married Anita, whom he called Neet, after nine months of courtship. The couple were introduced through a friend who knew Ed needed help with his college papers and knew Anita was the perfect match. The couple married on September 5, 1973 and immediately started a family. Together for nearly 50 years, the couple has five children, eleven grandchildren and one great grandchild. Although Edwin moved his family around, he was ultimately held captive by his passion for the city of New Orleans and perfervid love for sports, especially LSU. Edwin’s zest for life provided him a peculiar sense of humor and his laugh was contagious to everyone around. Edwin would give the shirt off his back for the ones he loved and made everyone in his company feel welcomed and appreciated. He would always tell his kids that they should learn to live in such a way that they would feel equally comfortable conversing with the President of the United States or a homeless person on the street and treat them both with respect. Those who knew him best will miss his quick-wit, well-rounded intelligence, engaging conversation and his generous spirit. More could be said, but words are unmatched to express the love shared for this beloved father, husband and friend. May he forever rest in peace. Visitation will begin at 12:00 PM on Sunday, December 18, 2022 followed by a Memorial Service at 1:00 PM at L.A. Muhleisen & Son Funeral Home, 2607 Williams Blvd., Kenner, LA 70062. Dad was never one for formalities or dressing up so, please dress casually. Shorts and T-shirts are welcome.
