Donald Franklin McMillion

Donald Franklin McMillion entered into eternal rest on January 27, 2024. He is preceded in death by his loving wife of 63 years, Mamie Lou Turner McMillion. He is survived by their children Donald E. McMillion, Bruce W. McMillion (Lisa), Denise M. Wilson (William), and Vicki L. McMillion. He was the proud grandfather of Della, Daniel, Cassie (Max), Bobby (Katie), Lacey (Branson), Ryan (Krissy), Courtney (Tim), and our angel Dawn Cheree. Don was “The Great PawPaw” to Madison, Breana, Makenzie, Joel “JD”, Carson, Liam, Emma, Wade, Elijah and Drew. He adored his grandchildren and his great grandbabies always made him happy and put a smile on his face. Don leaves a host of nieces, nephews and many friends who loved him. He was born in Southern Illinois on April 11, 1933 and married Mamie Lou Turner on August 11, 1953. Don served in the U.S. Army during the Korean War. He moved his family to Kenner, and eventually St. Rose, Louisiana in 1960 where he worked in the construction field until his retirement as Vice-President and a superintendent at McMillion Dozer Service. Some of his proudest moments was working on the Superdome and the Audubon Zoo in New Orleans, as well as Waterford 3 in Taft. Don adored his darlin’ Mamie and was her biggest supporter in all of her activities as a volunteer of the 4-H Clubs in St. Charles for over 30 years. He volunteered alongside her and made many trips chaperoning and supporting the 4-H Clubs. He also volunteered at various events with Mamie at the Destrehan Plantation and worked alongside her at various craft fairs and Farmers’ Markets. They were a definite duo and when you saw one you saw the both of them, often in matching shirts. Don was an avid deer hunter for many, many years and loved to fish as well. He and Mamie enjoyed traveling together and with their children, grandchildren, and even their great-grandchildren. He is preceded in death by his parents Clyde and Emma McMillion and siblings Elizabeth (Lester), Leroy, Harold (Alice), Howard and Jane. He is survived by one sister, Betty Perkins (the late Lloyd), one sister-in-law, Helen (the late Leroy), and one brother-in-law Don King (the late Jane). He made sure his family was raised in a Christian home and prayed for all of his children and grandchildren daily. Don’s final word before he went home was “Amen.” Relatives and friends of the family are invited to attend a Funeral Service at L.A. Muhleisen & Son, 2607 Williams Blvd., Kenner, LA 70062 on Sunday, February 4, 2024 at 3:00 PM. Visitation will begin at 1:00 PM until service time at 3:00 PM. Interment will be Monday, February 5, 2024 at 1:00 PM in Jefferson Memorial Gardens, St. Rose, LA. Arrangements entrusted to L.A. Muhleisen & Son.
