"Chief" Robert J. Evans, Sr.

“Chief” Robert J. Evans, Sr. passed away peacefully in the loving arms of his son at his residence on Friday, April 19, 2024 at the age of 78. He was born in New Orleans and a resident of Kenner, Louisiana. Chief Evans had an amazing career and many accomplishments throughout his life time. He began his fire fighting career in the United States Air-force in 1965. He later pursued the following civilian careers in which he retired in rank from each agency: Jefferson Parish Sheriff’s Office, Deputy with the L.A.S.E.R. Division; District Chief of the New Orleans Fire Department; Chief of the Third District Volunteer Fire Department; Assistant Superintendent of Jefferson Parish Fire Department; and Instructor / Director of Jefferson Parish Fire Training Center. He was also a member of the following organizations: International Association of Fire Fighters; Louisiana State Fire Chiefs Association; Homeland Security National Task Force; Veteran Fire Fighters; American Legion; and Elk’s Lodge. He was a true community servant and had a passion for helping others and saving lives. Beloved husband of the late Fay Dupaquier Evans. Loving father of Rhonda L. Evans (Patrick), Robert J. Evans, Jr. (Rhonda) and Brenda E. McCarson (Richard). Grandfather of April (Delaney), Robert III, Andrew (Andrea), Samantha, Cody (Chloe), Richard, Jeremy (Clarissa), Joey (Tiffany), Christian, Joseph (Samantha), Harley and Alyssa. Great-grandfather of Robert IV, Kinsley, Alice, Grayson, Paisley and Jo-Jo. Son of the late Vivian McCann Evans and John Oliver Evans. Brother of John Ronald Evans (the late Joe Ann) and John Oliver Evans, Jr. (Judy). Also survived by many nieces, nephews and his loyal lifelong 4 legged companion, Bear. Relatives and friends are invited to attend the Funeral Service on Friday, April 26, 2024 at L. A. Muhleisen and Son Funeral Home, 2607 Williams Blvd., Kenner. Visitation will be held from 9:00 a.m. to 12:00 p.m. with the Funeral Service to immediately follow in the Chapel at 12:00 p.m. A Procession will depart after the service concludes, and proceed down Williams Blvd. to Third Street, then on to Jefferson Highway to Third District Volunteer Fire Department, Station 31 in River Ridge , to pass view and provide his last call. After passing the station the procession will disband. Immediately following the procession, Family and Friends will gather in the Training Center behind Station 31 for a Celebration of Chief Evans’ wonderful life.
